Film/Video Program

 

 

The Film/Video Program offers an exceptional opportunity for students to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (B.F.A.) in Film/Video. First semester students are immediately provided with the opportunity to access the College’s state-of-the-art equipment.  All the facilities here are professional quality and identical to those utilized in the film and video industry.
Our hands-on approach provides professional experience and teaches each student the skills they need to pursue a career in the film industry. Students learn Directing, Producing, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Editing, Lighting, Camera Operating, Production Design, and Sound Recording from distinguished award-winning faculty.

 

 

Equipment and Facilities

 

Film/Television Studio


The sound stage itself has a professional lighting grid and a silent air-conditioning system. The equipment room supplies students with the latest equipment including Canon 5D and 7D DSLR Packages, Arriflex Super 16mm film cameras, Sony EX3 HD video cameras, Arri, Mole Richardson, Kino Flo, and Litepanel lighting, Sound Devices 702t and Pix 240 recorders, a J.L. Fisher Dolly, TV Logic Video Monitors, Sennheiser shotgun and wireless microphones, Sachtler Fluid Heads and Tripods, in addition to a multitude of Matthews grip equipment.

 

 

Film/Video Editing & Computer Graphics Lab

The film/video editing lab is equipped with Macintosh computers installed with the latest software. These include Final Draft 8, Final Cut Pro 7, Creative Suite 6 Masters Edition with After Effects, Premier, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, and Red Giant Magic Bullet Suite. All computers have FTC LAN networks and have Internet access. Students are required to have their own external hard drives. Students are supplied with memory cards and card readers to capture high definition footage in full 1080p.

 

Internships

Students can enroll in our internships which require participation in seminars, journal writing and submit reports concerning their work experience.
The College maintains a Career Services office which provides students with an awareness of job opportunities and helps them acquire the skills needed in searching for jobs, preparing cover letters, resumes’ and interviewing. Some of the internships have been with Abel Cine, Panavision, Tiffen, Tribeca Film Center, FUSE, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Rachel Ray Show, ABC, WPIX, SONY, MTV, KORG, Universal Music Group, HBO, Fox News, MSG, CNN, and various other radio, television, film businesses throughout the tri-state region.

 

Career Opportunities

 

Many of our distinguished alumni have gone on to acquire numerous positions in the film industry. Many alumni have become members of the IATSE Local 600 camera union and have worked on such television shows as Elementary, The Good Wife, Bored to Death, and Law & Order, as well as worked on numerous feature films. In addition, many alumni have positions at motion picture equipment rental houses in the metropolitan area, including ARRI CSC, Panavision, and Abel Cine Tech. Alumni have positions at news stations such as NBC and Huffpost Live. Alumni have had their independent worked screened in festivals in New York, LA, and all around the country, in addition to having work recognized by such publications as The New York Times and the Long Island Press.
