Job Placement Information

Introduction

A college degree has been shown, over time, to measurably increase graduates’ annual earnings. Each graduate, however, is different and some invariably will surpass the “average” results while others will not achieve the “average” results. Why are “average” results not applicable to all graduates? The answer lies in a range of factors, including the demand for labor regionally and nationally, the degree earned, a graduate’s work experience, and a graduate’s specific skills, personality and level of motivation.

The data presented here are based upon Five Towns College’s most recent graduating class, the Class of 2011, and their responses to a survey administered shortly before the College’s 37th Commencement Exercises in May of 2011. The responses reflect, therefore, only the graduates’ immediate employment situation; that is, while the graduates were continuing their college studies and not, to be sure, future full or part-time paid positions that would begin over the 2011 summer or in the fall of 2011. Follow-up studies will be conducted to track these graduates’ paid employment positions. Studies are currently underway to examine the employment statuses of previous graduates of Five Towns College.

Job Placement Results of the Class of 2011 Graduation Survey

Of the 213 students scheduled to graduate in May of 2011, 84% or 179 graduates responded to the Class of 2011 Graduation Survey. The survey covered the impending graduates’ current and immediate employment and educational plans. The survey also included specific questions about their employers, job titles, and work responsibilities, and it included questions covering the graduates’ plans to enroll in graduate school. The major job placement results of this survey are reported below.
