Graduate Admissions

 

Graduate programs at Five Towns College provide rich and rewarding opportunities for study at the Masters and Doctoral levels. These degree programs are registered by the New York State Education Department.

 

The Graduate Childhood Education Program provides qualified elementary school teachers with the opportunity to pursue a course of study leading to a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.). The program emphasizes rigorous academic inquiry and practical experience in combination with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary for success in schools that are culturally diverse, artistically challenging, and educationally complex.

 

The graduate music programs at Five Towns College lead to a Masters of Music degree (M.M.) and the Doctoral of Musical Arts (D.M.A) degree. The Music Education Program provides qualified teachers, who have achieved provisional/initial certification at the undergraduate level, the opportunity to earn a Master of Music degree (M.M.).

 

The program in Jazz/Commercial Music, leading to a Master of Music degree (M.M.) is offered with concentrations in Performance, Composition/Arranging, Music History, and Music Technology. The recording and music technology studios available on campus for instructional purposes are a major strength of the College.

 

The Graduate Division now accepts prospective candidates for programs in the fields of music performance, composition/arranging, music history and literature and music education leading to the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A). The degree is offered with an emphasis on jazz/commercial music in accordance with the mission of the college.

 

 

Graduate Admissions

Masters Applicants:

Masters Applicants (matriculated and Non-matriculated) seeking Admission to Five Towns College must complete the following items:

  • ● Attach $50 Application Fee (cash, check, money order or credit card).
  • ● Have all undergraduate and previous Graduate college transcripts sent to the Admissions Office. 
  • ● Two (2) letters of recommendation are required.
  • ● Applicants for a Masters Degree in Music are required to audition on their major instrument/voice   and piano. See Master of Music Audition Requirements.
  • ● Applicants for a Masters Degree in Education must present proof of their NYS Certification for teaching.
  • ● Have all immunization records forwarded to Five Towns College.

 

Doctoral Applicants:

Doctoral Applicants seeking Admissions to Five Towns College must complete the following items:

  • ● Complete the entire Admissions Application.
  • ● Attach $50 Application Fee (cash, check, money order or credit card).
  • ● Have all undergraduate and official graduate college transcripts sent to the Admissions Office with proof of completion of a Masters Degree.
  • ● Submit a research essay of at least 1500 words on a musical subject of your choice.  The essay must be typed and supported by citations and references.
  • ● Submit three letters of recommendation using official Five Towns College forms.
  • ● Applicants for the Doctor of Music Program are required to audition on their major instrument/voice. (See Doctor of Music Audition Requirements).
  • ● Immunization records will be required once accepted.
