On Saturday, September 25th, the FTC Men’s Soccer team took a trip to Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville, NY, to take on the Huskies in the first conference game of the season. The Sound tallied four goals and continued to shut out their opponents. Throughout the last three games, only one goal has been scored against them.

Forward Angel Chavez scored the first goal for the Sound at the 11th-minute mark from a pass by forward William Rivera. “I think it’s really a big confidence booster for us. It’s a big win for us….So we’re just gonna keep on improving, keep moving on. For myself, you know, scoring in I think about 11 minutes, as I did the last game, you know it’s just really good for me. And I’m gonna keep pushing on.”

But that wasn’t the only goal in the first half. Forward Jeff Palacios received a pass from Angel Chavez and hit the top left corner of the net just over the goalie in the 20th-minute mark to make the score 2-0. After that, it was just a game of possession for the Sound, keeping control of the ball and using their defensive line to go into the half, being dominant and not giving up.

In the 50th minute, left midfielder Juan Lopez carried the ball down the sideline and got tripped up in the box by the defender from Word of Life. Defender Sebastian Gomez stepped up for the Sound and buried the shot in the bottom right corner. The Sound was now up on the Huskies 3-0 and continued to limit shots for their opponents.

That afternoon, Gomez’s second goal came after he deflected the shot, and the Sound was awarded a corner kick. Defender Anthony Molina stepped up and took the corner kick. He shot it toward the back goal post, and Sebastian Gomez finished it off with a header, which sent the ball soaring into the net to put the Sound up 4-0.

Senior Captain Sebastian Montenegro will cherish this season and enjoying the time he has left on the team. “Cherish the time when you’re a freshman. When you’re a sophomore, people don’t realize that once your four years of eligibility are up, you can never play competitively again, unless you make it to the pro level. Enjoy the connections you make, enjoy the memories you make.”

The Sound will continue their battle to the conference championships this Saturday, October 2nd at 1 pm at SUNY ESF.
