Granted, Steven Maglio may not be the Chairman of the Board, as his idol Frank Sinatra became known in his storied career, but this sensational vocalist and entertainer is himself a masterful interpreter of Sinatra’s songbook, particularly his greatest love songs. Or as Maglio puts it: “Songs for swingin’ lovers…and everyone else!”
Maglio has the phrasing and the range that fans of Sinatra are sure to relish. Maglio’s voice has an uncanny similarity and timbre to Sinatra, but he’s willing to take off on his own flawlessly, and having the confidence to do that is a tribute to Maglio’s musicianship.
Critics and fans agree that Sinatra was at his best when he sang the distinctive melodies and lyrics of love songs. No one sang romance like Sinatra. He was without an equal. And it’s telling that even today a new generation of young Americans has come to embrace him. Sinatra never grows old.
Maglio, who was born in East Harlem, moved to the Bronx when he was eight and he still can recall hearing Sinatra singing, “My Kind of Town,” when he was just a kid. It made quite an impression on the young boy and he decided that he needed another Sinatra song to sing on his way to school. The only Sinatra album his family owned at the time was “A Man And His Music.” He put it on the turntable and he was hooked.
It’s been a long journey for Maglio, who finally made his professional debut at New York City’s Tavern on the Green when he was 43 years old. (Ol’ Blue Eyes got his first break in 1935 when he was 20 and singing with The Hoboken Four.) In 2004, Maglio started performing his Frank Sinatra tribute shows at The Carnegie Club in Manhattan, and he’s become a regular there ever since. He’s also sung at the Rainbow Room in Manhattan, The Sands Casino in Atlantic City and The Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.
Maglio has had the honor of sharing the stage with The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Frankie Vallie, Danny Aiello, The Spinners, and Vincent Falcone, Sinatra’s former pianist/conductor. Maglio also song in movies like “Frank & Alice,” “Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn,” and “Once More With Feeling.”
In this show Maglio will draw from Sinatra’s long, fabled career to include such classics as “My Funny Valentine,” “Night and Day” and “The Way You Look Tonight,” to name a few heart-stoppers.
If you love the swing, the style and the love songs of Sinatra, Steven Maglio is a must-see for you. You’ll thank yourself for the memories!
